Introduction to Backpacking

Come Backpacking in the White Mountains of New Hampshire or in the Green Mountains of Vermont!

Backpacking is one of the core competencies of being in the outdoors. During this 3-day course, you’ll learn the basics of backpacking with one of our great guides. You’ll learn everything from packing a pack, to how to set up camp, and everything in between!

Families and friends are encouraged to sign up and experience the backcountry!

Backpack locations will vary each trip and depending on ability levels of the group. We will run trips all over the White Mountains and in Vermont including but not limited to Mt. Washington, The Presidential Range, The Baldfaces, Franconia Notch, Crawford Notch, Mt. Mansfield (VT), Camel’s Hump (VT), and many more! Come experience the great outdoors and enjoy a few days of solitude with WMG!

Itinerary

  • Day 1 we will meet and go over all of our gear needs and be sure we all have the correct gear for the next few days! After our packout, we’ll drive to the trailhead and begin our trek in the mountains. Once at camp, our guides will help to set-up camp and get you and your friends situated in your tents. Now comes the fun part AKA time for dinner!!! Here’s where our guides will show you how good we eat in the backcountry!

  • Day 2 will begin with breakfast and us packing up camp and beginning the next leg of the journey. Our guides will help to get you situated in the morning and get us back on the trail to head to our next camp. Once there, we will repeat from yesterday and get camp set up and dinner in our hungry bellies!

  • Day 3, we will wrap up our course and hike out to our cars. During our hike out, we will discuss how the trip went and debrief our last 3 days! We will also help to plan our next trip together.

Intermediate Backpacking Trips

There is nothing like backpacking in the northeast! Let us guide you backpacking through the White Mountains of New Hampshire or the Green Mountains of Vermont.

Here in our intermediate backpacking course, we want to give you the skills to go backpacking on your own with your own group of friends and WOW them with what you’ve learned!

Itinerary

  • We will begin with our gear packout and head to the trailhead to begin our hike to camp. Here, we will begin to get your brain working as if you were the leader of the group and what things you should think about as the leader. Our guides will cover a plethora of topics and get us to camp to help with the next step of things. Once at camp, we will set up camp but the difference here will be that we will be equipping you with the skills to do this on your own!

  • Day 2 we will begin to take a step back so to speak and get you to run the show with our guides being there for support if questions do arise. Our guides will help you and your group to learn about navigation, weather, packing, pacing, etc.

  • Day 3, we will hike out and debrief our trip. Ups, downs, and everything else in between! Debriefing a trip right after the trip ends is the best way to grow as a person, friend, and as a leader. For us, it’s a great way for us to grow as guides and as a great way for our guides to provide feedback to you and to help with your progression!

Advanced Backpacking Trips

Backpacking in the White Mountains of New Hampshire or in the Green Mountains of Vermont can lead to amazing views and memories.

Our advanced backpacking is designed for backpackers who are trying to take that next step and possibly become a backpacking guide or just want the skills needed to take their family and friends out in the safest way possible. We will shape this course to your goals and do our all to help you reach those goals.

The difference between our intermediate course to this one will be that you will be running the show from start to finish. Our guides will be there for the help of course but we want to try and help you to get to the point where you can lead your own backpacks with confidence!

After arriving at the trailhead, our guides will almost take a step back and let you as the leader take us on our journey. Day 1 will get us to camp and here you will help to coordinate the group in setting up camp and getting dinner ready.

  • Day 2, our leader of the day will help to get the ball rolling in the morning and help the group to get ready to begin the next leg of the trip. After getting to camp, our guides will talk about different navigational tools. Other topics will be covered throughout the day and will help to push you as a leader.

Guided Hiking

Let's go hiking. Come hiking in the beautiful White Mountains of New Hampshire or in the Green Mountains of Vermont.

Is there somewhere in New Hampshire or Vermont you want to go hiking? Are you interested in trying something new or gaining more knowledge in the hiking world? The White Mountains of New Hampshire and the Green Mountains of Vermont have some amazing hiking trails for all ability levels from beginner to advanced trails. Hiking and being out in nature with one of our knowledgeable guides will help to elevate your hiking abilities. Leave No Trace ethics, setting the pace, layering, nutrition, how to navigate, and understanding group dynamics are just a few of the topics we will go over. Our goal at WMG is to get anyone who comes hiking with us to eventually be self-sufficient and gain the confidence to go out on their own! We encourage all ability levels to sign up.
